Evaporative Cooler Downsides When It's Humid Outside

evaporative-cooler-downsides-when-humid-conditions-outside-exist

Evaporative coolers cool air by filtering it through water, thus lowering its temperature. They produce humid air because the air absorbs water during the cooling process. These systems work best when a small amount of warm dry outside air circulates into the home while the evaporative cooler is on. The lower the humidity, the better when using evaporative cooling.

But, for all their affordability and benefits, evaporative coolers only work in a single, preferred climate…and that unfortunately doesn't include areas like El Paso and Las Cruces (especially on a hot humid day like today). Evaporative coolers will never produce the comfort of refrigerated air conditioners because the coolers have limitations when it comes to temperature changes. Not only does it need to be hot but also extremely dry all of the time before the cooling effect of the evaporating water works. Humid temperatures mean the cooler won't be able to adjust the temperature enough to keep it in the comfort zone. The cooler will only compound the humid effect of the outdoors making it uncomfortable, wet and humid indoors. Additionally, evaporative coolers will only be able to reduce the ambient temperature in a room by 10 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit. They really are not capable of controlling a home’s complete temperature.

Today, your cooler is not going to keep you comfortable; that is for sure! Why not? Because once again, an evaporative cooler’s effectiveness depends on two factors: the outside temperature and humidity level. For the most comfort, refrigerated air conditioning works best in hot, humid conditions because the refrigeration cycle will both lower the temperature and reduce humidity levels.

If you are experiencing discomfort in your home due to hot, humid conditions and an ineffective evaporative cooler, give Total Air a call. Estimates for a conversion to refrigerated air are free. And, our offer of Special Financing for 60 months with approved credit makes it more affordable than ever. 915-585-0909 www.totalairep.com
